Pharmacy First — what we can treat
For these seven conditions our pharmacist can assess you and, where appropriate, supply treatment including prescription-only medicines — without a GP appointment. No charge beyond the usual NHS prescription charge, if you pay it.
Whether treatment is suitable depends on your symptoms, medical history and national clinical protocols. Our pharmacist will assess you first and may refer you on instead. Walk in or call — no appointment needed.

For vulnerable or housebound neighbours, we can also arrange home visits to set up blood pressure monitoring.

Straight answers
What is NHS and what is private?
Free on the NHS: prescriptions and delivery, Pharmacy First consultations, blood pressure checks and 24-hour monitoring, contraception, the New Medicine Service, and flu and COVID jabs if you are eligible. Paid private services: earwax microsuction (£40 one ear, £50 both, £20 for a check with no wax found), travel health consultations and vaccines, and private flu or COVID jabs if you are not eligible on the NHS. Private prices are always confirmed with you before anything goes ahead.
How do I book?
Flu and COVID vaccinations can be booked online through the booking page on this site. For earwax removal and travel health, call us on 023 8077 1211 or send the short form on this page and we will ring you back to arrange a time.
Can I walk in?
Yes. Prescriptions, pharmacist advice, blood pressure checks, Pharmacy First and contraception are all walk-in during opening hours. Earwax removal and travel health are booked in advance so we can give you a proper appointment.
What should I bring?
Bring a list of your current medicines, plus your exemption certificate if you do not pay for prescriptions. For travel health, bring your travel dates and destinations and any record of past vaccinations. For a blood pressure check, nothing at all is needed.
Is the pharmacy accessible?
Yes. There is level access from Rownhams Road, room to move around inside, and a private consultation room for confidential conversations. On-street parking is close by. If getting to us is difficult, our free local delivery is there for exactly that reason. Please tell us if you need extra help and we will make it work.
How do I get help outside opening hours?
Call NHS 111 or go to 111.nhs.uk for urgent advice when we are closed. In an emergency, always call 999. Please do not use the website form for anything urgent — we only read it during opening hours.
Do I have to pay for NHS prescriptions?
In England most adults pay a standard charge per item unless they are exempt — for example under 16, 16–18 in full-time education, 60 or over, pregnant or recently given birth, or with certain medical conditions. If you pay for several items a month, a prepayment certificate is usually cheaper. Ask us and we will work it out with you.
How do I switch my prescriptions to you?
Just tell us. You do not need to contact your GP surgery — nominating us takes a couple of minutes in the pharmacy, or use the form on this page and we will call you back. You can change it again at any time and it does not affect your GP registration.
